Description

At the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, an animated feature film caused a sensation and won the special jury prize : ?La Plan?te sauvage? by Ren? Laloux, on phantasmagorical drawings by Roland Topor. For this philosophical tale of anticipation, where men serve as domestic toys for blue giants, Draags, the immense composer Alain Goraguer unleashes his inspiration with a main theme throbbing with great melodic evidence and an uplifting and hypnotic atmosphere.

Over the decades, the aura of The Savage Planet will rise to a crescendo, both the film and its revered score. viewed by new generations as a psychedelic pinnacle of French pop. Today, as 'La Plan?te Sauvage' celebrates its half-century, the miraculous exhumation of the original multi-track tapes (eight and sixteen tracks) allowed CAM Sugar to produce a new mix. We find unpublished pieces here, under the wise supervision of Patrick Goraguer, son of Alain, himself composer and performing musician. Listening to this integral version will confirm it to you: the powerful spell of ?The Savage Planet? is intact.

La Plan?te Sauvage is a 1973 animated science fiction film directed by Ren? Laloux and written by Laloux and Roland Topor. Topor also completed the film's production design and it was animated at Ji?? Trnka Studio in Prague. The film was an international co-production between companies from France and Czechoslovakia. The allegorical story, about humans living on a strange planet dominated by giant humanoid aliens who consider them animals, is based on the 1957 novel Oms en s?rie by French writer Stefan Wul.

The film's score was composed by Alain Goraguer. In a review for AllMusic, Fran?ois Couture noted: "The main theme is very reminiscent of Pink Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother Suite" (same half-time tempo, mellotron, harpsichord, and wah-wah guitar), and the other two are a ballad and a circus-like waltz. The music is very '70s-clich?d and will appeal to fans of French and Italian '70s soundtrack stylings. Although repetitive, the album itself creates an interesting marijuana-induced sci-fi floating mood, blending psychedelia, jazz, and funk...  It has been sampled by several hip-hop artists.
